SUNY Geneseo seeks a full-time, 12-month per year, Director of Student Volunteerism and Community Engagement.
The Director will serve under the general supervision of the Dean of Students, and the Assistant Dean of Students for Leadership and Service. The Director will serve as part of a highly successful, multifaceted experiential-learning based student affairs team, known as the Center for Community, who support the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum emphasizing learning outside the classroom.
The primary responsibilities of the position are to:
serve as a resource for individuals and student organizations interested in volunteering, engagement and community service;
serve as a resource for community agencies and organizations needing volunteers;
develop and manage volunteer programs for the campus community including, but not limited to: Knights First Day of Service for new students, in September; Geneseo CARES Days of Service, in October; Adopt-A-Family, in November/December; Livingston CARES; Gumbo-to-Go in November and April; Geneseo Goes to Town Service Day, in April; Geneseo Gives Back, in April; and three College-wide blood drives;
sponsor and host Volunteer and Engagement Fairs each semester;
serve as a member and secretary of the Livingston CARES Board of Directors, and assist in the management of Livingston CARES records, programs, and service trips;
supervise student community Service Assistants who serve as liaisons for student organizations; market service programs via social media; work with external community agencies; maintain the volunteer and service website; promote service trips, staff the on-campus food bank, and assist with outreach programs for youth, veterans and senior citizens;
assist in the management of the Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development (GOLD Program) including selection, training, and supervision of the volunteer GOLD Leader Mentor staff;
develop and teach GOLD workshops on volunteerism, service, civic engagement and social justice; supervise the Caryn Camiolo Social Justice Summer Internships;
assist in the collection of data and preparation of reports for applications for local, state and national volunteer and service awards;
coordinate the Advisory Committee on Volunteer and Service Programs and the annual recognition and awards for service;
serve as a resource for faculty developing service learning courses, including publications and other resources, and assisting instructors with community volunteer agency sites.
