Primarily responsible for the teaching/learning process and will also participate in the necessary operations of the institution.; Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work and teaching requirements indicate. Must be able to work/teach remotely at the request of the University. Â
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
80% Teaching/Service: Develop, implement and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology and other tools; Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline; Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes; Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning. Service responsibilities include: maintain appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry; Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation. Service responsibilities would include serving on a variety of committees at the departmental, school, college, university, professional, and community levels commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor.
20% Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity: Demonstrate a record of ongoing research, scholarship or creative activity appropriate to your academic discipline.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must (1) hold a Ph.D. in Geography, or a related field. ABD status may be considered as long as all degree requirements, including dissertation, defense of dissertation, and comprehensive examinations, have been successfully completed by the time of appointment - September 1, 2023; (2) have a record of peer-reviewed publication appropriate to career stage; and (3) demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and the public.
Ability to teach Introduction to Human Geography, World Regional Geography, Economic Geography, Cartography, and Introduction to GIS is required
Candidates will be evaluated according to a) overall quality of their academic preparation and scholarly work, b) relevance of their scholarly research to the department's academic priorities and fields of inquiry, c) evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and d) strength of recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to teach Urban Geography is desired. Candidates with the ability to apply spatial methods across a variety of disciplinary approaches, such as the natural sciences and social sciences are encouraged to apply.
