Job Summary:
The Senior Graphics Designer provides leadership for creating progressive graphics and web design for University Libraries. Creates, manages, and executes a wide variety of complex marketing and communications materials impacting students, faculty, and community partners. Serves as expert on branding guidelines for UTA Libraries. Collaborates with various stakeholders throughout the Libraries to highlight and promote activities.
Essential Duties:
- Direct and manage all graphic design projects that support the Libraries' brand strategy.
- Plan, prepare, design, and execute professional graphic artwork including, but not limited to, print, websites, digital, and social media applications.
- Determine design requirements and conceptualize visuals based on those requirements.
- Work with copywriters to produce final designs.
- Test graphics across various media and amend designs after feedback.
- Provide leadership and superior customer service and collaboration to colleagues in the Libraries to ensure marketing and graphics expectations are exceeded through the project and design cycle.
- Serve as expert for branding and style guidelines for the UTA Libraries, in accordance with the university policy.
- Lead quality control for brand specifications for design projects.
- In collaboration with other members of the marketing and communications team, partner with Libraries clients to develop designs, promotional strategies, and branding elements that elevate and advance the Libraries.
- Supervise and mentor graphic design student employees through teaching, critique, management, development, and evaluation.
- Confer with and advise Libraries staff regarding project specifications such as graphic content, layout, paper stock, and media requirements; may create composites and develop concepts depending on needs and budgetary considerations.
- Establish and develop relationships with outside vendors and production teams to ensure effective partnerships.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in graphic art, design, communication, fine arts, or related field.
- Four to six (4-6) years of advanced experience as a production artist or designer with extensive knowledge of all phases of print production and web design.
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced experience designing, developing, and implementing graphic and web design within higher education, a corporate environment, or a similar large organization.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Expert in Adobe Creative Suite, which includes Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
- Excellent communication skills and strong customer service orientation.
- Vision for graphic design campaigns that reach target audiences and meet other measures of accountability for success.
- Ability to foster creative environment for new ideas and influences.
- Establish culture for critique to ensure advanced skill development and exceptional design.
- Proactive design to align with current trends.
- Be an advocate and ally for equity, diversity, justice, and inclusion.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines and production schedules.
- Proven proficiency in project management and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and techniques of communications and graphic design theory.
- Advanced problem-solving skills.
- Solid detail-orientation.
