The New York State Integrated Pest Management Program (NYSIPM) at Cornell AgriTech is part of CALS and Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) at Cornell University, the Land Grant University of New York State. We advance the lives and livelihoods of NYS residents through teaching, research, and public service. The NYSIPM is comprised of 21 faculty and staff, physically located at Cornell AgriTech, Geneva, NY and elsewhere in the state.
As a member of the IPM team, the Program/Extension Aide IV II will provide program support in two areas: Emerging Invasives Pests and NYS Field Crops Pest Management.
Invasive Pest Initiatives:
Spotted Lanternfly is an emerging pest that is beginning to impact NYS residents and agricultural producers. The dynamic nature of this new pest situation requires person in this position will need to stay on top of the expansion in the geographic distribution of the pest as well as current research insights and management approaches. Work will include anticipating needs and developing outreach and educational materials with collaborators around the state and region. To be successful developing working relationships with colleagues at other agencies within and outside of NYS is important. The Program Assistant II serve as a primary contact for members of the public looking for information on this issue.
Field Crops and Livestock IPM Team Contributor:
Monitoring the occurrence and intensity of pests of feed, forage, and grain crops is a significant element to managing those pests. The Program Assistant II will have a familiarity with field crop systems, the relevant pests and IPM approaches. They will support integrated pest management extension work and contribute to working group communications.
In both areas Program/Extension Aide IV will:
- Deploy insect traps and conduct field data collection
- Help maintain pest and other data systems online
- Oversee the production of outreach publications with subject matter support from team leaders
- Part of team providing oversite to interns and temporary or student employees.
- Work with and develop contracts with vendors, and service providers
- Assist in analyzing program effectiveness determining successes and impacts achieved.
- Assist in determining opportunities for new programing to meet anticipated needs.
- Collaborate in identify funding sources and assist in the development of grant proposals.
This is a benefits eligible full-time position.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in agricultural discipline or closely related biological field and over 3 years of relevant experience. Computer proficiency necessary for collecting data, developing teaching aids and the ability to learn new programs as needed to support the program goals. Valid NYS driver's license, access to independent transportation. Fitness necessary for light field work and inventory management. Ability to work independently, liaise with stakeholders, and maintain collaborative relationships. Facilitate regional networks to promote program objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree and 4 years' experience in education and in conducting field and laboratory research tasks. Experience with educational program management and delivery. Assist with the preparation of grant proposals and budget management. Familiarity with fruit and field crops and ability to learn diverse crop systems.
