POSITION TITLE: Learning Specialist (Junior Kindergarten - 8th grade)
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (10.5-month position) August 13, 2024 - June 10, 2025
REPORTS TO: Associate Head of School
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
- Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the school’s mission, vision, and core values
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; graduate degree preferred
- California Special Education Credential recommended
- 3+ years of teaching experience in an independent school and special education setting
- Knowledge of learning differences, behavioral intervention, psycho-educational tests, reports, and assistive technology
- Knowledge of administering and interpreting assessments and test results, academic achievement, and diagnostic testing
- Proven success as a team player in a learning support program
- Full understanding of differentiated instructional strategies and behavioral interventions across the curriculum and grade levels
- Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Detail-oriented and resourceful
- High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere
- Proven success at working collaboratively
- Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills and flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the divisions
- Collaborative and thoughtful ability to interact with students, parents, faculty, and staff
- Experience with a variety of technology in the classroom, such as computers (Mac), digital projectors, document cameras, iPads, and educational software and applications
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Google Apps for Education
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Partner proactively with faculty and administration to support students with different learning needs in their efforts to improve student learning
- Observe and evaluate individual students displaying academic or behavioral difficulties and assess their learning strengths and challenges
- Push-in to classrooms (JK-8th) to support the learning needs of identified students and facilitate behavioral interventions
- Direct one-on-one or small-group instruction
- Secure standardized testing accommodations for qualifying students
- Pursue professional development opportunities and attend conferences and professional meetings in order to remain current with educational trends
- Participate in committee, divisional, and faculty meetings as well as school-sponsored events that would benefit from your area of expertise
- Be involved in the school community at large
- Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Associate Head of School or Head of School
- Serves as a member of the Student Support Team and actively participates in weekly faculty and level meetings
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Works in a school environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Occasionally, bend, stoop, and squat
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
- Be able to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
- Willing to work some evenings and weekends for school-related events or projects

This position is a permanent, full-time position. Pay is competitive and is commensurate with education, experience, and skills.
Salary Range - $80,000 - $95,000 depending on experience
