Saint John’s High School is seeking an Accounting and Finance teacher (or experience with Business Principles, Business Math, and/or Applied Economics). This position is currently part-time with an opportunity for long-term growth based on the candidate's experience and other areas of expertise. The Accounting and Finance class at Saint John’s is designed to give students an introduction to these fields as academic disciplines at the collegiate level, as well as give the students a practical understanding of personal and business finance. To that end, the first half of the year focuses on corporate finance and accounting, while the second half of the year focuses on personal finance and accounting. The Finance and Accounting teacher will also work with guest speakers from the academic and business world to help the students understand the real-world application of the Finance and Accounting curriculum. In addition to normal classroom teaching expectations, this educator should be willing to collaborate with the mathematics department and administration regarding curriculum and assessment, best practices with regard to high school teaching, and be willing to engage students about moral and ethical questions that arise in the course of the curriculum.
Minimum Qualifications
An undergraduate degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
Experience teaching at the high school level/collegiate level or relevant professional experience is preferred
Fluency with current discipline-specific pedagogy.
Ability to assess student engagement, successes, and struggles with understanding how math is applied and used in finance and accounting.
Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of all students.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to articulate effectively the values and mission of Saint John’s High School and the Xaverian Brothers.
