Virginia Episcopal School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Girls' Basketball Coach for the 2025–26 academic year to help cultivate a competitive and character-driven basketball program. This role may also include teaching responsibilities, involvement in residential life, and active participation in the broader boarding school community. The ideal candidate will serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes, uphold the mission and values of the school, and contribute to building an inclusive team culture rooted in the school's guiding principle of "Toward Full Stature."
Primary Responsibilities:
Residential Life:
Live in a student dormitory and serve as a role model, mentor, and resource for students.
Provide daily supervision, support, and guidance to boarding students.
Participate in evening and weekend duty rotation, including monitoring dorm activities and ensuring safety protocols.
Assist in planning and facilitating community-building events and programs.
Support students in their academic, social, and emotional development, referring them to appropriate resources when necessary.
Uphold and enforce community standards, school policies, and codes of conduct.
Coaching Duties:
Assist the Head Coach in all aspects of the girls' basketball program, including planning and running practices, developing game strategies, and managing contests.
Serve as head coach for at least one athletic team per season (fall, winter, or spring, depending on experience and program needs).
Support the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes.
Promote sportsmanship, leadership, and respect both on and off the court.
Help coordinate team logistics (travel, equipment, scheduling).
Support recruiting efforts and outreach for prospective student-athletes in collaboration with the Admissions Office.
Supervise and mentor student-athletes both on and off the field.
Collaborate with the Athletic Department to support program goals and student participation.
General School Engagement
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and campus events as appropriate.
Support student activities beyond residential life and athletics (e.g., clubs, service projects, weekend programming).
Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
Serve as an advisor to a small group of students, fostering academic and personal development.
