Under the strategic leadership of the Director Child Care Center, the Assistant Director is responsible for the safe and effective daily operation of one of Syracuse Universitys Child Care Programs (EECCC and BMW) in alignment with Syracuse University Child Care Programs mission, values, and goals, professional best practices, and good University stewardship. The centers vary in style of early childhood classrooms and number of staff.
Education and Experience:
Per NYS Office of Child & Family Services regulations:
Bachelors Degree including, or in addition to, 12 credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field.
1 full year of full-time teaching experience in a child day care center or other early childhood program, and one year of experience supervising staff in a childcare program or a related field of work.
Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge, understanding and application of NYS Office of Children & Family Services regulations, understanding of best practices in childcare and early education.
Responsibilities:
Assist Director in daily management of childcare center and NYS Office of Child & Family Services license compliance. Assistant Director will be on-site contact for staff and parents.
Coordinate, lead, and supervise 20+ student employees and on-call/ temporary/seasonal employees.
Attend staff development.
Coordinate staff daily schedule based on Directors template and expectation.
Will oversee staff time off and absence and provide classroom coverage to maintain child to teacher age-appropriate ratios.
Responsible for creating a welcoming, supportive learning environment, along with modeling and reinforcing a high performing culture where staff can do their best work.
Assist in management of wait list: input wait list submissions; communicate with wait list families.
Knowledge of affiliation balances across center.
Understand and support of centers financial operations under Directors guidance: understanding of tuition accounts; preparation of deposits, knowledge of payment plans, able to communicate and coordinate payments from service vendors.
Knowledge of classroom budgets.
