About Bank Street Founded in 1916, Bank Street's mission is to improve the education of children and their teachers by applying to the education process all available knowledge about learning and growth and by connecting teaching and learning meaningfully to the outside world. In so doing, we seek to strengthen not only individuals, but the community as well, including family, school, and the larger society in which adults and children, in all their diversity, interact and learn. We see in education the opportunity to build a better society.
Bank Street has three divisions: Children's Programs, including the School for Children, the Family Center, Head Start, and Liberty LEADS; the Graduate School of Education; and the Bank Street Education Center, which houses Bank Street's portfolio of public impact work.
The Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) is a 15-person team, inclusive of this role. The team raises unrestricted funds for the College via mail and digital campaigns, and fundraising events including an annual dinner. A growing major gifts program serves as the foundation for the Imagine Tomorrow capital campaign. Within DARO, an alumni relations team engages alumni of the Graduate School and School for Children. The team also manages the College's partnerships with private foundations, corporations, and government entities.
The School for Children The Bank Street School for Children was founded in 1954 as a working model of the College's approach to teaching and learning. As a PreK - 8 independent school, education at the School for Children is experience-based, interdisciplinary, and collaborative. The emphasis is on educating the whole child - the entire emotional, social, physical, and intellectual being - while valuing and reinforcing the child's integrity as a learner, teacher, and classmate. Throughout its history, Bank Street has been committed to creating and maintaining a diverse community of learners and enrolling qualified students regardless of their families' economic circumstances. Upholding that obligation requires a significant annual investment.
The School for Children and the College have a common administration and share the building at 610 West 112th Street between Broadway and Riverside Drive on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
The Opportunity The Director of Development for Children's Programs is a key member of Bank Street's Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) and serves as a member of the Children's Programs leadership team. The Director reports to the Vice President, Development and maintains a close working relationship with the Dean of Children's Programs/ Head of the School for Children through ongoing check-in structures. The Director works collaboratively with the other members of the DARO team, as well as faculty and staff of The School for Children. They will supervise the Special Events Coordinator.
