Job Summary: The Primary School encompasses Junior Pre-Kindergarten through grade 5. It is a collaborative environment that requires excellent communication and flexibility. In 2026-2027, this role will require instruction in 4th and 5th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies. Homeroom teachers engage in social-emotional and executive function support, as well as consistent and proactive communication with family members and other faculty. A successful teacher in this position understands the unique demands of working at an independent school, is passionate about the School’s Mission, and embraces its Portrait of a Graduate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach 4th and 5th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement an effective, engaging, and meaningful scope and sequence that is vertically and horizontally aligned.
- Employ research-based and innovative instructional and assessment methods.
- Create a warm and well-structured learning environment with consistent routines and high expectations that encourages and supports intellectual risk-taking and growth.
- Provide timely individualized feedback to students.
- Communicate proactively with families.
- Serve as the homeroom teacher for 5th grade.
- Supervise students as assigned by Division Director.
- Contribute to the life of Day School by coaching and/or leading student clubs and activities.
- Be a visible presence at school events.
- Actively participate in the Humanities departments.
- Actively participate in faculty meetings and professional development.
- Model a commitment to lifelong learning and growth.
- Uphold Day School’s Mission and core values.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree, preferred.
- Experience teaching, preferred. Indiana Teaching License not required.
