Adams State University is seeking a caring and self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills to advise students in an academic setting. This position in the First Year Advising Center delivers academic advising (which includes intervention as deemed necessary) to admitted undergraduate students and provides support to the Director of Academic Advising.
Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities):
Student Advising and Support:

Provides academic advising services to undergraduate students, including the use of intrusive advising methods, as deemed necessary, for advisees identified as not making Satisfactory Academic Progress

Initiates retention contacts with advisees who are behind in registration for the subsequent semester

Refer advisees to other ASU resources as needed

Assists Director of Academic Advising in verifying majors of newly admitted students and assigning appropriate advisors
Program Coordination:
-
Coordinates all major/minor/advisor assignments and changes, including communication to various departments

Assists Director of Academic Advising in verifying majors of newly admitted students and assigning appropriate advisors
Interdepartmental Collaboration:
-
Develops and coordinates relationships with various offices on campus (e.g., Registrar’s Office, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Support Services) to better serve students
-
Participates in departmental and committee meetings as appropriate for supporting assigned students
-
Participates on Academic SOS committee
Operational Support:
-
Supervises Student Success Center kiosk ambassadors in absence of director of academic advising
-
Serves as a Campus Security Authority, as federally mandated under the Clery Act.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
-
1 year of experience in academic advising, student services, or a related higher education.
-
Demonstrated knowledge of degree programs and corresponding career options
-
Understanding of educational requirements and advising processes
-
Excellent oral and written communication skills
-
Proficiency with various software technology proficiency and software applications
-
Strong organizational skills including an ability to multitask
-
Ability to work occasional flexible hours
-
Ability to work with diverse, non-traditional, and underserved student populations in a compassionate, firm and structured manner.

Ability to treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy and to work honestly, effectively, and collegially with employees, students, and the community. This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to bring the disagreement to management for assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $42,252-$48,060 annually.
