Description:
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and empathetic teacher, who can work collaboratively with a Learning Specialist. Lower School Head Teachers are responsible for teaching ELA, Math and Social Studies. Candidates will need to understand the importance of supporting the social/emotional needs of all students and identify triggers and offer solutions that minimize attentional and/or anxiety issues often present in our students. Preferably, this person has experience with project-based teaching and is able to frame essential questions in an engaging way to encourage deeper student learning.
Responsibilities:
To create and maintain a climate of trust and positive regard for students
To collaborate with Learning Specialist to plan ELA and Math instruction and projects
To provide standards-based, project-based instruction in Social Studies
To support the social/emotional needs of our students by implementing SEL or Mindfulness curriculum throughout the day
To present content in a multi-sensory, explicit fashion while providing scaffolding where needed
To maintain ongoing parent correspondence
To accurately assess each student's progress and complete quarterly Progress Reports
To collaborate with the school staff (Learning Specialist, Homeroom Teachers, Curricular Lead, and Head of School) and parents to tailor instruction best suited for the individual needs of that child
To supervise students in transition to enrichment classes or at recess and lunch
To plan field trips
Attendance at School activities, such as outdoor education and enrichment outings, regular attendance to weekly, staff meetings and open houses is expected and required.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
Two years of formal classroom experience working with children
Proficiency with technology
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience teaching students that fit our profile
Single Subject Teaching Credential – Reading/Literacy or Math
Multiple-Subject Credential
Masters of Arts in Special Education (Mild/Moderate)
Masters degree in Math
Training in multi-sensory methodologies such as Slingerland and Wilson
Training in Making Math Real
Training in Responsive Classroom or Zones of Regulation
