Middle School History Position
St. Michael’s Country Day School is an independent school in Newport, RI serving students in toddler (2 year olds) through grade eight. St. Michael’s Country Day School exists to develop courageous learners and caring citizens who are world ready.
We are actively seeking experienced teachers for Middle School History (grades 6-8). Candidates must have a good understanding of the social, emotional and developmental needs of the students they will be working with, and a passion for teaching that age group.
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- A strong understanding of the cognitive and developmental needs of middle school students;
- Leadership skills for students, faculty, and parents in an independent school setting;
- An ability to work collaboratively with colleagues;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- An understanding of, appreciation for, and commitment to 21st century learning skills;
- An ongoing personal commitment to professional development.
The teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering an engaging, age-appropriate curriculum in U.S. and World History that fosters historical thinking, global awareness, and a passion for learning in middle school students. Knowledge of Responsive Classroom practices, project based learning and differentiated instruction, as well as, a masters degree is preferable. St. Michael’s values and supports reflective teaching practices, on-going professional development, and teachers who see themselves as lifelong learners. A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree is preferable.
