FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Hunter College, the largest college in the City University of New York (CUNY) system, is a nationally recognized leader in public urban education. The Department of Curriculum and Teaching in the School of Education at Hunter College invites applications for a full-time, open-rank, tenure-track position in Adolescent Social Studies, to begin Fall 2026.
Responsibilities include:
Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in adolescent social studies methods, including curriculum design and pedagogy.
Pursue and maintain an active research agenda with publications and presentations in social studies education or a related discipline.
Supervise and mentor pre-service teachers during their field experiences and student-teaching placements.
Advise teacher candidates from admissions to degree completion.
Contribute to on going program development and accreditation efforts.
Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with local middle and high schools.
Engage in service to the department, college, and broader professional community.
QUALIFICATIONS
An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Social Studies Education, History/Global Education, Ethnic Studies, or an area related to adolescent social studies education.
Three or more years of teaching experience in grades 7–12 social studies in an urban context.
Substantial undergraduate and graduate-level teaching experience in curriculum design and teaching methods with a focus on criticality, analysis of power, and creative interdisciplinary and pedagogical approaches.
Experience with and commitment to working with students from culturally-rich backgrounds, including multilingual learners and students with special needs.
Evidence of scholarly engagement and contributions, including publications, presentations, and/or community-based work.
Commitment to fostering a caring, diverse, and inclusive learning and teaching environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with New York State teacher certification requirements.
Experience building partnerships with schools and communities.
Experience with program design, accreditation, and assessment.
Experience providing leadership and mentorship for pre-service and in-service teachers.
Evidence of effective integration of technology into teaching and/or teacher preparation.
