Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description:
The department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition is searching for new part-time Professional Writing Instructors to teach sections WRT 205 Spring 2026. Multiple sections may be available; teaching load for new instructors may be anywhere from 1 to 4 sections per semester dependent on need and availability. All offerings are contingent on budgetary approval and sufficient enrollment. PLEASE NOTE: All offerings are face-to-face in Syracuse, NY; remote teaching is not available. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit rate history with the hiring department.
Qualifications:
MA or MS with graduate coursework in Composition and Rhetoric, English or related field.
Experience teaching writing at college or high school level required.
Prior experience as a Professional Writing Instructor at SU is preferred; current internal applicants will receive priority consideration.

Responsibilities:
The duties associated with teaching assignments include:
Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
Ordering appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
Preparation of projects or other student assignments.
Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
Meeting all the designated class periods.
Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University Regulations.
Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
Keeping current with developments and trends in the departments curriculum and in the field of rhetoric and composition.
