The Tufts University Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies seeks applicants for a full-time faculty lecturer position in Dance commencing Fall 2022. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate introductory and intermediate dance courses and providing service to the program.
THE TUFTS DANCE PROGRAM, DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE, DANCE AND PERFORMANCE STUDIES
The Tufts Dance Program, housed within the Department of Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies, offers an array of experientially based studio and lecture-based courses. Studio courses range from such forms as Afro-Haitian, Ballet, Breaking, Contemporary Jazz, Kathak, Tap, Musical Theatre Dance, to advanced studies in creative process, choreography, and performance. Lecture courses rotate across subject areas in the field, including dance history and aesthetics, dance education, and contemporary cross-disciplinary studies of dance. Recent classes have included Dance and the Hollywood Musical and Queer Dance. Facilities include two dedicated studios with sprung flooring; one of the studios converts into a performance space that seats 100. See more information about the Dance Program.
MA, MFA or PhD degree in dance or a dance research-related field. Demonstrated experience with teaching dance in an undergraduate context is required, including the ability to design and teach semester-long studio courses with viewing, reading, and written assignments that encompass critical approaches to placing dance in its socio-historical context. A demonstrated history of artistic practice, making and presenting movement work. Administrative skills required include personnel management, production budget and schedule management, recruitment and coordinating artistic meetings between designers and choreographers.
AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION IN TEACHING
An ability to facilitate upper-level choreographic and creative process courses; and an expertise in social, folk, or concert dance forms emerging from indigenous and diasporic communities in the Americas and across the globe.
