Position Information: Under supervision, work as support staff in the Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology teaching labs at the University of California, Riverside. This will include preparing and setting up materials, equipment, and supplies for student experiments in the classroom. The candidate will also aid instructors during classes and, as needed and in conjunction with instructors, help to evaluate protocols used in the classroom experiments. The position will also be responsible for ordering and maintaining inventories of chemicals, equipment, supplies, and biological materials needed for the classes. The candidate should be able to take charge of lab setup during absences of the instructors, using independent judgment to make day-to-day decisions and resolve problems. On occasion, the candidate may also participate in laboratory activities outside of the classroom. The candidate must be able to learn and apply safety standards and practices relevant to the laboratory.
The full salary range for the Lab Assistant 2 is Finance & Administrative Services Analyst is $22.11 - $26.05 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Requirements: Educational Requirements
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and two years of laboratory experience, or two years of college including courses in the life sciences and chemical sciences including one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Required

Familiarity with equipment used in the life sciences, including micropipettes, balances, and pH meters.

Familiarity with sterile techniques and the growth of microbial cultures.
Ability to work independently after initial supervision and training.
