JOB SUMMARY: SVSU invites applicants for a one-year, temporary position as an Assistant Professor of Geography to begin July 1, 2026. Applicants must have acquired their Ph.D. by the time of appointment. Specific teaching responsibilities may include General Education Courses in Physical Geography, World Regional Geography, and North American Regional Geography, as well as upper-division courses in physical geography. All courses require instruction in writing and oral communication skills. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate fully in departmental activities, such as advising students, recruiting new students, and supporting outreach initiatives.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Geography or a closely related field. ABD will be considered if the Ph.D. is completed by July 1, 2026.
Demonstrated success in teaching General Education courses in either physical or human/cultural geography.
Experience teaching and mentoring a broad spectrum of undergraduate students.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.
Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community.
Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
