Summary
Canterbury School seeks an experienced and dynamic History Department Chair for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a leadership position that includes both teaching and administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will bring a strong background in historical scholarship (advanced, subject-area degree preferred), proven excellence in classroom teaching, and the ability to guide and support a talented team of history educators. The Department Chair is responsible for overseeing curriculum development, mentoring faculty, leading departmental initiatives, and fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment across all levels of history instruction. Candidates must have experience teaching AP European History, AP U.S. History, and/or AP World History, and should demonstrate a commitment to academic rigor and student-centered instruction. Candidates must enjoy working with adolescents, possess an exceptional work ethic, and embrace a commitment to teamwork. Expectations of the position include efficient and effective communication to students, colleagues, and parents. The position may include dormitory supervision, extra-curricular activities, advising students, and serving as an athletic coach or afternoon activity advisor.
