Spartanburg Day School is currently seeking a Middle School History teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with students in 7th to 8th grade to bring history to life and to inspire the students to make the connections between historical events and our world today.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach comprehensive U.S. history (Colonial to Modern) using primary and secondary sources to develop students' critical thinking, research, and analytical skills.
Create dynamic, technology-enhanced learning activities—including debates, simulations, and interactive projects—while differentiating instruction to support diverse learners and specific accommodation plans.
Foster an inclusive, positive environment that encourages curiosity, respectful dialogue, and diverse perspectives on complex historical events and figures.
Evaluate student progress through varied assessments (essays, projects, participation), maintain accurate records, and consistently communicate growth with families.
Actively contribute to the broader school community by collaborating with staff, serving as a student advisor, and participating in school activities (coaching a sport is highly encouraged).
KEY STRENGTHS & QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Sciences, or Education required (Master’s degree and State Teaching License preferred).
Proven track record teaching history, with a preference for middle school and independent school environments.
Deep understanding of best practices for challenging, supporting, and inspiring middle school students both academically and personally.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to create a positive, growth-oriented learning environment.
Exceptional ability to connect and collaborate meaningfully with students, families, and colleagues.
Genuine passion for the school community, including an interest in coaching sports or leading extracurricular clubs.
