The Blinn College District is searching for a Part Time Sociology Instructor (Dual Credit Columbus High School)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below:

Job Summary

Provide curriculum instruction to dual credit high school students in the field
of Sociology, at the Columbus High School Campus, on at least 2 weekdays
for selected times that will fall between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.


Principal Accountabilities

* Must be able to teach to dual credit high school students in the field of
Sociology, at the Columbus High School Campus, on at least 2 weekdays for
selected times that will fall between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
* Needs a willingness to train for (and prepare to teach using) our college's
distance education delivery system. This willingness is needed even though
the instructor will be assigned to face-to-face courses.
* Demonstrates a commitment to student engagement, student success, and
instructional excellence.
* Maintains access to students through posted office hours and electronic
communication.
* Prepares and utilizes a course syllabus and assessments for each course
using guidelines established by the institution.
* Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and
utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and
educational resources.
* Evaluates students' performance through a variety of means to measure
progress and keep them informed in a timely manner.
* Assists in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for
courses and program objectives.
* Provides recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean,
Department Heads, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum.
* Demonstrates a positive and professional relationship with students,
colleagues, college administration, and the community.
* Submits timely college reports and forms to the appropriate
divisions/departments.
* Exhibits a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in
professional development activities.
* Possesses a passion for teaching community college and dual credit high
school students.
* Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and orally
* Responsible for other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications

* Master's Degree in Sociology (or a Master's Degree in a related field where
the applicant has 18 graduate hours in Sociology courses)
* At least 3 years experience teaching dual credit college students at a high
school location

Minimum Competencies

* Must be able to teach to dual credit high school students in the field of
Sociology, at the Columbus High School Campus, on at least 2 weekdays for
selected times that will fall between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Preferred Qualifications

* At least 5 years experience teaching dual credit college students at a high
school location
* Experience teaching Sociology to dual credit college students at a high
school location
