Middle School Social Studies Teacher Direct Supervisor: Head of Middle School FLSA: Exempt Type: Full-Time Faculty Employee
The Middle School Social Studies Teacher is a creative, passionate, and student-centered educator who demonstrates superior and current knowledge of social studies education and is able to elicit deep, engaging, and active learning for all students. This teacher is proficient in expanding students’ knowledge related to world geography and United States history, as well as developing critical thinking skills, communication skills, and the ability to make global connections.

Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the School’s social studies curriculum
Teach social studies concepts using a variety of methods, including discussions, demonstrations, inquiry-based lessons, simulations, and other technologies
Assess student progress and provide feedback to students and parents/guardians
Create a positive and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success
Collaborate with other teachers and staff to create interdisciplinary projects and activities
Advise a small group of students in the Character Development Program
Attend meetings and as a lifelong learner pursue professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on evidence-based practices in social studies education
Use the 90-acre campus throughout the curriculum as an ideal place for investigations of real-world history
Perform other duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social studies education, or a related field
At least 2 years of experience teaching social studies at the middle or high school level
Excellent time management skills and ability to switch between tasks and prioritize work
Strong organizational and planning skills
Aptitude to learn new systems, software, and platforms, including student information systems
Comfortable in a Windows environment and with Google Workspace/MS Office
High level of confidentiality and discretion
The Middle School Social Studies Teacher is a 10-month position and follows the academic calendar.
