ACCESS SERVICES TECHNICIAN - Per Diem Hobart William Smith Colleges: Education: Warren Hunting Smith Library

The Warren Hunting Smith Library is establishing a pool of applicants to fill our per diem (part-time) Access Services Technician position. The per diem employee may be filling in for a sick or vacationing worker either during the day or without direct supervision evenings and/or weekends or fulfilling a seasonal need. The candidate(s) will perform selected public services tasks in support of the overall library function.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides high-quality customer service to a diverse body of students, faculty, staff, and community members either in person, online, or by phone
Supervises student assistants and reports problems to a supervisor
Responsible for opening and/or closing the library, depending on the schedule
Uses the library's integrated library system for various circulation transactions including but not limited to charging/ discharging library materials and registering community borrowers
Has a thorough knowledge of library circulation services policies, practices, and procedures
Assists patrons with directional questions and responds to simple questions regarding the use of Library resources, such as locating items in the online public access catalog, using the Library website to locate information about services, etc.
Works with other campus units to maintain a safe and supportive environment
Performs other duties as assigned
Pay rate is $17.01/hour.
Qualifications - High school-level education
- Excellent verbal communication abilities
- Basic computer proficiency
- Strong customer service orientation; consistently positive, helpful, and resourceful
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse social, cultural, and economic circumstances
- Highly reliable, flexible, and adaptable work style
- Relevant experience in library services (preferred but not required)

This position is considered as a casual, as-needed (per diem), part-time (less than 20 hours per week), non-benefits-eligible, hourly paid administrative staff position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Hourly rate: $17.01/ hr
